Home Repair

Do you or your neighbor need help maintaining a safe, decent place to live??

Austin Habitat’s Home Repair program provides caring volunteer groups who come alongside and assist homeowners in repairing their homes.

Qualifications For the Program

Need: Family income must be under 60% of MFI
Willingness to Partner: Able bodied homeowners and residents of the home are required to work alongside volunteers

Additional Qualifications:
• Must live within corporal city limits of Austin
• Must live in a free-standing, single family home (not a duplex, condo, trailer, or mobile home)
• Home must be owner occupied
• Home must be more than 5 years old
• Ownership of the home must be stable. You must not be in danger of bankruptcy, being condemned, or foreclosure
• Must have homeowner’s insurance
• Scope of work must match program resources (light-moderate exterior repairs)

The Application Process

Step 1: Do you qualify? See requirements above.
Step 2: Attend an Orientation Session: Find out more about Austin Habitat’s Home Repair program and how to apply.
Step 3: Return your application to AHFH: Our Home Repair Selection Committee evaluates your family’s financial situation.
Step 4: Construction Interview: Our Home Repair team conducts an assessment of your home to determine if the scope of work matches program resources.
Step 5: Home Interview: Our Home Repair Selection Committee volunteers schedule an interview in your home to meet your family and see your living conditions.
Step 6: Approval: Our Home Repair Selection Committee identifies qualified families, and submits them to a Qualifying Committee for final approval.
Step 7: Repairs: Our Home Repair staff and community volunteers help you repair your home.
